The Ultimate Guide to our New Helyx Hybrid Dye

The Ultimate Guide to our New Helyx Hybrid Dye

The Ultimate Guide to our New Helyx Hybrid Dye

Elleebana’s First-Ever Hybrid Brow Dye is Here!Brows are in Elleebana’s DNA and have been for three decades. As part of our ongoing innovation, we’re thrilled to introduce our Helyx Hybrid Dye system – a revolutionary hybrid brow dye designed for long-lasting colour, vibrant skin staining, and enhanced hair health.

But why Helyx? The word “Helix” refers to the twisted coil of proteins found in all living beings. Our DNA, structured as a double-helix, determines the proteins our body produces for life. Since brow and lash hair is made of proteins, we believe the products we use should also support hair health. Caring for lash and brow hair is in our DNA!

Helyx Hybrid Dye is an innovative, highly pigmented liquid dye that can provide the user with a long-lasting effect similar to a stain or henna. The liquid formulation and viscosity allow for greater absorption and easy application for layering colour and giving a bold skin stain result.

Why Artists Are Loving It

  • Deep Penetration for Long-Lasting Colour – Acts like a permanent tint, deeply colouring the hair shaft.

  • Skin Stain Effect – Adds density and definition for bolder, more sculpted brows.

  • Sparse Brow Saviour – Enhances shape and fullness without the need for invasive treatments.

  • Microblading Alternative – Offers a semi-permanent result without the long-term commitment or cost.

  • Cost-Effective for Salons – Over 100+ applications per 15ml bottle = serious value.

More Than Just a Dye — It’s Brow Care in a Bottle

At Elleebana, hair health is everything. That’s why Helyx Hybrid Dye is packed with powerful plant-based ingredients designed to condition, strengthen, and protect during every treatment.

MOCHA CHARM (DARK BROWN) A deep shade of brown that offers great and dark coverage. Can also be combined with any colours within the range, to add more depth and longevity to the skin stain.

ONYX NOIR (BLACK) The darkest colour within the range giving a lush black depth to the brow for clients that need complete definition and the longest lasting result. Can also be used as a toner in small percentages to neutralise warm tones.

Developers:

  • Creme Developer – Easy application and control, ideal for beginners.

  • Liquid Developer – Deeper skin staining and perfect for airbrushing techniques.

Which One’s Right for Your Client? Brow Tint vs. Brow Henna vs. Brow Dye

When comparing Helyx Hybrid Dye, Elleeplex Profusion Tints, and Henna, the core differences come down to formulation, performance, and intended use.

Helyx Hybrid Dye is a liquid-based system created exclusively for brows, delivering vibrant, long-lasting colour with strong skin-staining capabilities and hair-penetrating power. Its hero ingredient, KeraVeg18, works to nourish and strengthen brow hairs during processing, making it an ideal solution for clients seeking both bold definition and hair health support.

Elleeplex Profusion, on the other hand, is a creamy dual-purpose tint for lashes and brows that’s designed to minimise skin staining—making it perfect for sensitive areas around the eyes or for clients who prefer a softer, more natural tint. It offers excellent results for those who want definition without the intensity of a hybrid dye.

Brow Henna uses natural plant-based pigments in a powder form that is mixed with water to create a paste. While it also offers a skin-staining effect, henna coats the hair rather than penetrating it, requires longer processing times, and can sometimes produce inconsistent results due to variations in plant-based ingredients. Ultimately, the choice comes down to your client’s preferences for colour intensity, skin staining, longevity, and the level of hair care they desire.

🧪 Brow Tinting Systems: Comparison Table

Developer Required Yes – must be mixed with cream or liquid oxidant Yes – mixed with Elleeplex Profusion developer No – mixed with water instead
Colour Longevity on Hair Up to 6 weeks 6-8 weeks Up to 6 weeks
Skin Stain Longevity Up to 7 days, depending on skin type and aftercare Minimal to none 1–2 weeks, depending on skin type and aftercare

Entering a Lash Lift Competition? Amie Buckley’s Experience & Top Tips

Entering a Lash Lift Competition? Amie Buckley’s Experience & Top Tips

Last weekend, Elleebana Educator Amie Buckley took on the challenge of competing in the Lash Summit Championship in Melbourne—a prestigious lash lift competition featuring some of the industry’s finest. Out of 19 incredibly talented beauty professionals, Amie secured an impressive 4th place overall, and her results speak for themselves!

We couldn’t be prouder of her achievement, so we sat down with Amie to learn exactly how she achieved her results and to gather her top tips for anyone considering a lash lift competition. Here’s what she had to say:

Behind the Scenes of the Competition

“Competing in a lash lifting competition was an unforgettable experience. I had the privilege of competing against 19 incredibly talented beauty professionals in Melbourne, each bringing their own expertise and passion for the industry.

As we entered the competition room, we were asked to select a workstation and begin our setup. I wasn’t feeling nervous—in fact, I was excited and eager to begin. Once everything was in place, my model arrived, and I immediately assessed her lashes. She had naturally long lashes with a slight curl and a noticeable kink, which presented an initial challenge.

With a 1.5-hour time limit, I decided to use the Freestyle Lash Lift Method by applying Step 1 directly onto the lashes. This allowed me to soften and straighten them while correcting the kinks. I used Elleeplex Profusion and processed for 11 minutes. Once Step 1 was removed, I selected a large Elleebana Flex Rod to wrap the lashes into position before applying the Step 2 setting lotion. After an 8-minute processing time, I carefully removed the product and dried the lashes to assess the results.

As the lashes dried, I noticed that a few of the longer lashes, which extended beyond the rod, still had a slight kink at the tips. At that moment, I felt the pressure of the ticking clock, but I remained focused. Using a micro-tip applicator, I carefully corrected these areas, by applying the step 1 and step 2 solutions for about 1 minute each, ensuring a smooth and uniform finish.

Next, I proceeded with a tint using Elleeplex Profusion Blue Black. While the lashes were processing, I added jewel embellishments to my model for extra points. Seeing the final result come together was truly exciting! Once the tint was removed and the lashes were fully dry, I was extremely pleased with the outcome and felt confident in my work.

The judges assessed key factors such as symmetry, tint application, residue, inner corner lash lift, and overall visual appeal. I felt I had met all the criteria and presented a refined result.

Although I didn’t take home the win, the experience was invaluable. I had the opportunity to connect with inspiring beauty professionals, refine my skills, and push myself in a high-pressure environment.

For anyone considering entering a competition, here are my top tips:

Stay calm and enjoy the experience – Everyone in the room is in the same position as you. Take the opportunity to meet new people and learn from one another.

Work efficiently and precisely – This ensures you have time to make necessary adjustments for a flawless finish.

Have fun! – Embrace the moment and make the most of it. This is an experience you’ll remember forever!”

Is Brow Lamination Safe During Pregnancy?

Is Brow Lamination Safe During Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is an exciting and transformative time for many women, filled with anticipation and new experiences. However, alongside these changes come hormonal shifts that affect not just the body internally but also show up in hair, skin, and overall sensitivity to products—important factors to consider when deciding on cosmetic treatments like brow lamination.

Melissa Thompson, an experienced midwife and acupuncturist at Gold Coast University Hospital, works closely with expecting and new mothers. She highlights the significant influence of pregnancy hormones on hair and skin. “During pregnancy, many women notice changes in hair texture, such as new growth, loss, or structural shifts. These differences are largely due to fluctuations in hormones like Prostaglandin and Oxytocin,” she explains. As each woman’s pregnancy experience is unique, so is her body’s response to treatments.

How Pregnancy Affects Hair Growth and Texture

Hormonal changes can have varied effects on hair. For some women, pregnancy brings thicker, fuller hair, while others might experience thinning or even new curl patterns. In the breastfeeding stage, hair loss is common as hormone levels stabilise, causing shifts that may affect how cosmetic treatments like brow lamination and lash lifts take to the hair.

Due to these hormonal fluctuations, sometimes a brow lamination might not work on an expecting or breastfeeding mother, it could also mean the processing time that is required could be longer or shorter than usual.

If you have an expecting mother who books for in for a brow lamination, it is important to confirm if she has previously had this treatment performed with the brand that you are using.  Most times, if the mother has not had a brow lamination before falling pregnant, it would be recommended to not perform the treatment without educating the client of the potential issues such as the lamination not working/dropping out or over processing.

During Which Trimester Can You Get Brow Lamination?

While brow lamination is generally safe, some timing considerations can help ensure comfort and minimise risk:

First Trimester: The first trimester is marked by heightened hormone levels, nausea, and increased skin sensitivities. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers who do experience a reaction are not able to take antihistamines or antibiotics as these treatments can affect their child and so there are some cautions that need to be taken. Elleebana recommends avoiding brow laminations during this period due to the possibility of a stronger-than-normal reaction to the chemicals or odours in lamination products. Pregnant clients may also experience heightened nausea or discomfort from product fumes.

Second Trimester: This phase is typically more stable, making it the most favourable time for brow lamination. Nausea often subsides, and energy levels are usually higher, reducing discomfort from treatment. However, a well-ventilated space and the use of mild, tested products are essential to accommodate increased skin sensitivity and risk of nausea.

Third Trimester: The third trimester brings its own set of considerations, particularly physical comfort. Extended periods lying on the back can be uncomfortable or even unsafe. Brow artists can often modify their approach by allowing clients to sit up or ensuring supportive padding is provided during the treatment.

Essential Precautions for Expecting Clients

Whether your client is expecting or breastfeeding, a few simple steps can go a long way toward ensuring safety and comfort:

  • Consultation: Always perform a detailed consultation to manage expectations, as hormonal shifts may impact the final result.
  • Patch Test: Schedule a patch test a few days before the procedure. Skin is often more reactive during pregnancy, making it crucial to check for sensitivity.
  • Medical Consultation: Advise clients to discuss their plans with their healthcare provider, especially if they’re experiencing unusual skin changes or sensitivities.
  • Ventilation and Aftercare: Ensure the treatment space is well-ventilated, and recommend gentle, safe aftercare products, like our Advanced Aftercare serum or Hyaluronic Boost serum. Proper aftercare helps prevent irritation or infection, which is especially important during pregnancy.

Setting Clear Expectations

Managing client expectations is key to a positive experience, particularly when outcomes may vary due to hormone fluctuations. Clients who are informed and understand the potential challenges are more likely to feel satisfied with the results, even if they differ from pre-pregnancy outcomes.

The Importance of a Detailed Indemnity Form

Regardless of pregnancy, it’s always wise to keep an up-to-date indemnity form on file. This document should include any current medications or newly developed allergies to ensure the safest treatment experience.

By taking the time to understand and prepare for these special considerations, brow artists can make the experience comfortable, safe, and satisfying for their expecting clients.

The Ultimate Guide to our New Hybrid Shields: Compared to our Flex Rod and Shield

The Ultimate Guide to our New Hybrid Shields: Compared to our Flex Rod and Shield

What are Hybrid Flex Shields?
Crafted from ultra-soft silicone, these shields provide a comfortable, form-fitting experience for various eye shapes. No adhesive is needed on the back, making lash lifting more comfortable and efficient. The unique hybrid design, combining a round rod base with a straight upward lift, prevents over-curling and speeds up application, saving salons time and money.

Features to Adore:

  • ULTRA-SECURE: Designed with state-of-the-art locking curvature, these shields mold perfectly to the eyelid, ensuring optimal flex for most eye shapes.
  • TREE TAB GRIP EFFICIENCY: Our signature tree tab grip (featuring the iconic Elleebana tree logo) allows for easy placement, attachment, and removal, providing effortless control when working with gloved hands or tweezers.
  • DURABLE & LONG-LASTING: Made with high-quality materials to ensure longevity, these shields perform best when cleaned and maintained according to recommended methods.

So when do I opt for a Flex Shield, Rod, Or Hybrid Shield?

When it comes to performing a lash lift — a procedure that reshapes and lifts a person’s natural lashes — choosing the right tool can make all the difference. Lash technicians often ask: which one is better, flex rods, flex shields, or flex hybrid shields?

While each has its unique advantages, knowing when to use each one will help you achieve the best results for your clients. Let’s break down the individual purposes and benefits of flex rods, shields, and hybrid shields.

When to Use Flex Rods:

  • For a natural curl look: Lash rods are great for clients preferring a soft, natural-looking lift. They create a gentle C-curl that enhances without being too bold.
  • For medium to long lashes: Dropping down in sizes of your rod is advised if your lash wrap isn’t extending enough past the apex. For really long lashes, this will ensure the tips of the lashes don’t touch the lid (annoying for clients, especially when wearing mascara.)
  • For downward-facing lashes: Rods help achieve a better lift as they create a gentle C-curl rather than lifting the lashes straight up, aligning more with the natural growth direction of downward-facing lashes.
  • For hooded eyes or tapered eyelids: Rods ensure lashes curve out and away from the lid without hitting the brow bone, perfect for hooded eyes.
  • For multi-layered lash lines: Rods provide better separation and lift when dealing with multiple lash layers.

When to Use Flex Shields:

  • For a dramatic look: Flex shields are perfect for clients seeking a bold, eye-catching lift that adds volume and impact to the eyes.
  • For shorter lashes: Shorter lashes benefit greatly from a lift straight from the base, enhancing length.
  • For naturally curly lashes: Flex shields work well with lashes that already have a natural curl, straightening them out and creating a neat, clean look.
  • For protruding eyes or curly lashes: Shields help smooth and lift naturally curly lashes, making them ideal for unruly lash growth.

When to Use Flex Hybrid Shields:

  • For the best of both worlds: Hybrid shields provide a combination of base curl and straight lift, creating an M/L curl effect.
  • For medium to long lashes: These shields are great for varying lash lengths, however choice of size to suit the lashes is important.
  • For all lash types: Whether the lashes are naturally curled, straight, or downward-growing, hybrid shields work well across different lash profiles.
  • For multi-layered lashes or curly lashes: Hybrid shields smooth and lift unruly lash growth, ensuring a consistent, beautiful curl.

Choosing the Correct Rod/Shield Size

Correct Rod and Shield Placement

To Conclude…

Whether you’re looking for a dramatic, bold lift or a subtle, natural curl, choosing between flex shields, rods, or hybrid shields can elevate your lash lifts to the next level. Each tool has its own strengths, and with the right knowledge, you can tailor each treatment to meet your client’s specific needs. Hybrid Flex Shields offer the versatility of combining the benefits of both rods and shields, providing a comfortable, efficient, and precise lift. By investing in the right tools, you’re ensuring the best possible results for your clients and saving valuable time in the process.

Educator On The Spotlight – Meet Paige Langley

Educator On The Spotlight – Meet Paige Langley

Meet Paige Langley, Elleebana’s Newest Master Educator! We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Paige Langley to learn more about her incredible journey into the beauty industry and what has led her to this exciting new role with Elleebana. Here’s what she shared with us:

A Journey into the Beauty Industry

“Becoming a part of the beauty industry was never something I envisioned. Growing up, my dream was to become a police officer, driven by my passion for helping others. Working in my family’s petroleum business didn’t resonate with me, so I made a bold move to the Gold Coast, seeking a fresh start for myself and my eldest daughter.

One afternoon, while walking through Burleigh, I found myself reflecting on my future and wondering what career path might suit me. That’s when I came across the Gold Coast Training Academy. In that moment, everything clicked. I took the leap, and 27 years later, the Gold Coast still feels like home.

Looking back, I feel incredibly fortunate to have found this dynamic and ever-evolving industry. Beauty has opened so many doors for me, and I’ve come to realize that sometimes life leads you down paths you never expected, but they end up being exactly where you were meant to go. The beauty industry is full of endless possibilities, constant learning, and opportunities for reinvention. It’s a world where creativity never stops.

Starting at 21 as a graduate in a salon, I quickly discovered my passion, particularly in hands, feet, and brows. By 1999, I fulfilled my dream of becoming my own boss and opened my own salon, where Elleebana Lash Lift became an essential part of our offerings. Business was booming, but by 2008, I felt ready for a new challenge. I transitioned into the wholesale beauty industry, focusing on sales and training while still holding on to my loyal clients during my free time—I simply couldn’t let them go!

Education has always been at the heart of my career. As eyelash extensions gained popularity, I dove into training and partnered with a local brand to provide courses across Australia. During this time, I also earned my TAE qualification for the VET sector. I spent nearly nine years at a private beauty training facility, teaching a wide range of subjects—from Nail Technology and Lash Lifting to Brow Lamination. Working alongside talented beauty professionals was a fulfilling experience, deepening my expertise in both practical and theoretical aspects of the industry.

After over 15 years in sales and education, I knew it was time for another chapter. That’s when the opportunity with Elleebana came my way, and I jumped at the chance. My connection with the brand has always been strong, and it felt like a full-circle moment returning to my roots at the Gold Coast Training Academy, originally owned by Otto’s family, and now representing the Elleebana family.

To me, Elleebana represents excellence, innovation, and a deep commitment to integrity and respect within the beauty industry. It’s a global powerhouse with an undeniable energy that fuels creativity and drives professionals forward. I’m thrilled to now be a part of that energy—a force that keeps the beauty world buzzing with anticipation for what’s to come. I truly believe this is where I am meant to be.”

Fun Facts About Paige:

  • I am a Leo so I’m extroverted and as my daughter says… sooo extra. I love to belt out a good tune and enjoy every minute life has to offer.
  • I am an adventurer and like to be a little crazy. I skydive when I travel to other countries so I can see it from land and above. I hope to travel to as many countries as I can in this life and the journey has already begun.
  • My naughty hobby: I love fashion and have been a collector of Camilla Franks for over 15 years. My cupboard is nothing but colourful and I always claim to be born in leopard print. A true Leo!
  • My Mum was my hero and I am so grateful for all that she gave me and taught me. She is my true Angel.
  • My beautiful family means the world to me. My amazing Dad and my girls, Taylor and Aurorah, my son in law Daniel and my cute little nutty fur baby Teddy!

BROW TRIMMING AFTER A BROW LAMINATION – SHOULD IT STAY OR SHOULD IT GO?

BROW TRIMMING AFTER A BROW LAMINATION – SHOULD IT STAY OR SHOULD IT GO?

When it comes to brow lamination, the topic of trimming post-treatment often sparks debate among beauty professionals and clients alike. Should you trim those brows after a lamination, or is it best to leave them untouched? Let’s dive into the science and break down the facts.

LET’S TALK SCIENCE

At Elleebana, we’re all about the science. When we have questions, we dig deep into research, study reports, and base our findings on solid scientific principles.

So, does trimming or cutting your brow hairs after lamination cause damage? The simple answer is NO. While chemical services can impact hair health, trimming the tip of a brow hair won’t cause damage.

Hair growth is regulated by vascular, endocrine, and neural stimuli, as well as age and nutritional habits. The health of your hair starts within the follicle. Trimming doesn’t change the genetic makeup of your brow hair because it all begins at the base, in the follicle.

However, trimming can cause hair to feel and appear blunter due to the angle of the cut. For clients with thick or coarse brow hair, trimming rather than “debulking” the brow can result in a blunt finish, which might be less appealing, especially if the cut is too short or the natural growth direction isn’t considered. But, from what we’ve seen, no studies suggest that trimming post-lamination causes any real damage to the hair itself.

It’s important to note that we’re talking about lightly trimming the tips to even out the brows, not cutting away large sections!

We love exploring and sharing studies on topics like this, so if you have peer-reviewed research with science-based facts, please share it with us—we’d LOVE to see it!

Elleeplex Profusion Brow Lamination System

BROW HAIRS THAT SHRINK? 🔬

There’s a common misconception that washing your brows 24 hours after a lamination causes the hairs to shrink. Let’s clear that up with some science!

During a brow lamination, we’re reforming the disulphide bonds within each hair, elongating them for that smooth, sleek look. If the lamination steps are done correctly, these bonds are stable and won’t revert to their original state just because you’ve washed your brows.

So, what’s really happening if you or your clients notice a change after washing? It’s likely due to the removal of a finishing product that adds temporary volume and density. Once rinsed, you’re seeing the true, beautifully laminated brow hairs. While these hairs are more manageable thanks to the lamination, they still need a bit of styling to achieve that perfect out-of-salon look.

When using Elleeplex Profusion lotions during a brow lamination, we remove the lotions with water during the service and allow the hairs to dry naturally. This lets us see the hair’s true response to the lamination and assess whether any trimming is needed to refine the final look. Trimming can alter the hair’s shape, texture, and appearance, so it’s essential to make these decisions carefully.

PERCEPTION OF BROW HAIRS

Have you ever noticed your brow hairs feeling a bit wiry after a trim? Trimming brow hair doesn’t actually alter the follicle itself, but it can change the way the hair feels and appears. The hair follicle, located beneath the skin, is responsible for producing hair and dictates the hair’s characteristics, such as texture, thickness, and growth pattern. Trimming affects only the hair shaft—the part of the hair that is above the skin.

Here’s how trimming might change the perception of the hair:

  1. Blunt Ends: Trimming cuts off the naturally tapered end of the hair, creating a blunt edge. This can make the hair feel stiffer or coarser because the tip is no longer fine and soft.
  2. Hair Growth Patterns: Over time, frequently trimmed brows might appear different in texture or direction. This isn’t due to the follicle itself but how the hair interacts with surrounding hairs and skin.
  3. Perception of Thickness: Trimmed hairs may feel thicker or more wiry simply because the cut end is more noticeable than the finer, natural tip. This can give the impression that the hair has changed in texture or thickness.
  4. Increased Curling: Trimming can also alter how the hair sits on the brow, potentially causing it to curl or stick out more if it grows back in a slightly different direction.

The follicle remains the same unless significant changes occur due to factors like hormones, aging, or other physiological influences. The perceived changes in hair type after trimming are mainly due to the altered structure of the hair shaft above the skin.

OUTLAWING TRIMMING?!

💭 Should Trimming Be Outlawed After a Brow Lamination? Let’s Unpack!

In the beauty world, there’s rarely a one-size-fits-all answer, and the same goes for trimming post-lamination. Whether to trim depends on the client’s brow shape, hair texture, and length.

For some, trimming is essential to achieve a polished, balanced look. Thick, unruly brows might need a little taming to perfect the lamination result. But for others—especially those with thinner or sparse brows—trimming could do more harm than good, potentially diminishing the shape unless those brows are meticulously styled every day.

Trimming the tails of the brows? Usually not recommended. Sometimes, all those longer hairs need is a bit of styling to stay in place. And let’s not forget the client’s goals—if they’re in the middle of a brow rehab journey, every single hair counts, so trimming may be off the table.

Ultimately, it’s about understanding each client’s unique needs and working with them to achieve the best results.

What do you think? Should trimming stay or go? And what other controversial topics should we dive into next? Let us know!

Trainer In the Spotlight: Alicia Vadnais

Trainer In the Spotlight: Alicia Vadnais

We are thrilled to spotlight one of our exceptional USA trainers, Alicia Vadnais. Alicia has been an incredibly talented Elleebana trainer for the past few years, and she recently opened her own salon, Fringe Parlor, in her hometown of Benson, Minnesota. We are extremely proud of Alicia and everything she has achieved. Recently, we asked Alicia to share her journey in the beauty industry, and here is what she had to say:

Alicia’s Journey in the Beauty Industry

My love for the beauty industry started when I was 4 years old, telling my mom I wanted to be a “beauty shopper”. I have always had a passion for all things skin, lashes, and makeup.   Growing up on a farm in Minnesota, I spent summers baling hay and lived there all through high school. After attending NDSU and obtaining a double major in Psychology and Sociology, I headed to the East Coast. In searching for an Esthetics school, I found Atelier Esthetique in NYC and was licensed in 2007. I couldn’t get enough of this industry—there is so much to learn and love. I continued my education and received my ITEC certification, allowing me to work in 38 countries in all things Esthetics.

After returning to Minnesota, I fell in love with a local farmer and ended up settling in my hometown of 3,500 people. I adjusted my goals and found a balance between work and family life. I have two amazing children, and my family is everything. I started lashing to stay home with my babies, finding the perfect balance of home and work.

In 2018, my state began regulating lashes, requiring me to rent a space in a salon to continue working. My supportive husband built me a salon in a camper, allowing me to license it and work anywhere in the state. His willingness to support my dreams never ceases to amaze me.

Being in a licensed salon allowed me to return to my skin roots and research lash lifting. I love the transformative experience of extensions and the joy they bring to my clients. However, not everyone is a candidate for extensions, nor do they fit everyone’s lifestyle.

This is where Elleebana entered my life. I read about the company’s values and structure, which aligned perfectly with my beliefs. I believe in helping each other rise in this industry, rather than gatekeeping information. Elleebana is a true family of some of the most talented individuals I have seen. The lifetime support that comes with the training is unmatched by any other beauty company. When I discovered that I could be trained by Master Trainer Kelly Rhode in my state, I immediately signed up.

I was offered a training position the next year. Initially, I hesitated, not because it didn’t sound like an amazing opportunity, but because I didn’t think instructing was for me. Kelly’s persistence paid off, and I’m so glad I listened. It has been a bright spot in my career ever since. I get to be a cheerleader for my students, and we all grow together. If I have to pick my favorite reason for staying with Elleebana, it is the amazing human connections it allows me to make in this industry. I will forever be grateful to be part of a company whose owners never settle for anything less than the best. Otto Mitter is always working to improve our tools for success, providing us with the latest information and technology.

In 2020, I opened Vi Beauty Lab with a partner in Wayzata, MN, commuting 2.5 hours to work there two days a week. It was an amazing experience, with some of the best clients and co-workers. After two years, I returned to my hometown and, once again, my husband helped me restore a 100-year-old building into a salon, and Fringe Parlor was born. I still travel to the cities to train my Elleebana students, but most of my time is now spent closer to home. I train with the One Shot Lash Lift system and Lash and Brow Lamination with the Profusion system. My courses are available both in person and online. I would love to see you in class. We have a lot of fun, and there is a lot to learn. My door is always open.

Top Three Common Mistakes Lash Lift Beginners Make – From an Elleebana Educator

Top Three Common Mistakes Lash Lift Beginners Make – From an Elleebana Educator

If you’re new to the world of lash lifting, it can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. As a team of Educators, we’ve seen beginners navigate this path, and yes, they do make mistakes – but that’s all part of the learning process, and it’s where the magic happens!

Here is a guide to avoid common mistakes newbies make:

1. Inconsistent Lotion Placement

The key to a flawless lash lift lies in precise lotion application. Ensure your placement is not only thick but also consistent across the lashes. Many lash artists are inconsistent with their lotion application and actually use less than they should. You really want to make sure the lotion is consistent and thick all the way across. Inconsistent lotion placement can hinder your lift results, so take the time to master this fundamental step as it sets the foundation for stunning results.

2. Underestimating the Power of Aftercare

Don’t overlook the significance of post-treatment care. Emphasize to your clients the importance of maintaining lash health for long-lasting results. Recommending products like the Elleeplex Advanced Aftercare or the Hyaluronic Boost Serum not only enhances their satisfaction but also strengthens the bond of trust between you and your clientele (plus it is a great form of extra income for your salon!). Aftercare isn’t just something to sell for extra revenue – it is essential to ensure that after you have put the hair through that chemical process, they are being looked after at home. This helps give your lash clients the longevity of their results.

3. Lacking Confidence

Confidence is key in any beauty treatment, especially when working in such close proximity to your clients. It can be quite a foreign feeling to get up close and personal with a stranger and touch their face and eyes. While it may feel daunting at first, exude assurance in your abilities. Remember, your confidence instils trust and reassurance in your clients, making them feel comfortable and valued throughout the process. Being too gentle with the client can make them doubt your expertise. Imagine laying there with your eyes closed and someone is almost tickling your head – you get this feeling from their energy that they are just not sure what they are doing. Make sure when you are working with your clients, you are specific with their head placement. Don’t be afraid to make full contact – place your hand in a good position. Support their head while you are wrapping the lashes. If you need to move their head, don’t just gently push – get control of the head and move it around where you need it. This will ignite confidence in you as the lash artist.

Conclusion

Embracing the learning curve is crucial in mastering the art of lash lifting. By being mindful of lotion placement, emphasizing the importance of aftercare, and projecting confidence in your skills, you can avoid common pitfalls and deliver exceptional results. Remember, every mistake is a step toward becoming a more skilled and knowledgeable lash artist. So, keep practising, stay confident, and watch as your expertise grows and your client’s satisfaction soars.

Elleebana’s Global Impact: Transforming Lash Lifts Worldwide

Elleebana’s Global Impact: Transforming Lash Lifts Worldwide

In the beauty industry, eyelash lifts have become a game-changer, offering a low-maintenance way to achieve beautifully curled, thicker-looking lashes. But how did this transformative treatment come to be? Before the advent of lash lifts, eyelash curlers were the go-to tool for enhancing lashes. The concept of lash lifting evolved from the process of perming hair, a technique pioneered by Karl Nessler. Adapting this method, the beauty industry introduced semi-permanent lash lifts that provided a more defined curl without the need for daily maintenance.

Initially, lash perms involved the use of strong chemicals like ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. Lashes were adhered to cylindrical rods, and the solution was applied to create a stable curl. However, this often resulted in over-processed, dry, and frizzy lashes. The dramatic curl from cylindrical rods could make lashes appear shorter due to over-curling. Clearly, some changes and improvements were needed to fine-tune the process.

Then Along Came Elleebana…

Thanks to brilliant advancements in science and the beauty industry, the lash lift treatments we know and love today were formed! Modern perm solutions have minimised the use of strong chemicals while still gently penetrating the hair fibre, creating a delicate but effective perm without damaging the structure. An additional step now includes a neutral finishing solution to condition and restore nutrients stripped during the perming process, leaving the lashes silky and healthy.

Take Elleeplex Profusion, for example. Designed to keep lashes as healthy as possible, it uses a gentle active ingredient (cysteamine HCL) and incorporates the world’s most innovative third step (Re-Gen Next-Gen) to boost hydration and strength in the lashes.

Despite the challenges of recent years, the lash industry has flourished, with Elleebana playing a pivotal role in its evolution. Our brand has become synonymous with excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement, inspiring lash artists globally. Elleebana’s success is not just about exceptional products; it’s about the vibrant community and culture we’ve built, emphasising the importance of skill and safety in lash applications.

Where We’ve Been Lately…

Otto and the Elleebana team have been busy building our community state by state, travelling from one place to another and meeting many of our lash community members along the way. Otto has attended some exciting events, including the prestigious LashBoss Summit in Texas. This event was more than just a conference; it was an immersion into the vibrant world of lash artistry and business strategies. Over two days, attendees enjoyed a variety of educational sessions, including Otto’s session on taking the guesswork out of lash lift results, and networking opportunities designed to elevate their lash and business skills.

Otto made the most of his time in the US, flying from west to east. If you’re thinking he’s been sipping margaritas in Miami, think again. He was invited to film a phenomenal TV show with Destination Divas and share how lash lifts are transforming people’s lives. This opportunity to share our expertise and inspire a broader audience underscores Elleebana’s global impact and dedication to innovation.

Combining Brow Lamination with Waxing? Proceed with Caution

Combining Brow Lamination with Waxing? Proceed with Caution

Brow lamination is currently one of the most sought-after beauty treatments, and for good reason. This procedure can help clients achieve their dream brows by sculpting unruly hairs into a sleek, uniform shape that lasts for weeks, even months! The topic of waxing before or after Brow Lamination is one that sparks various opinions, which is why you’re probably finding it hard to settle on one.

There’s a delicate balance when it comes to maintaining those perfectly laminated brows. While it’s tempting to follow up with a wax to achieve that sleek, polished look, it’s essential to exercise caution. At Elleebana, we’re all about empowering beauty professionals with the knowledge they need to keep their clients’ brows looking their best. Here’s why we advise against waxing before and recommend caution when waxing after brow lamination, along with a few alternatives to keep your clients’ brow game strong.

Why No Waxing Before Brow Lamination?

The process of brow lamination involves applying chemical solutions to reshape and tame unruly brow hairs. Waxing beforehand can sensitise the skin, making it more susceptible to irritation from these solutions. We always recommend against waxing before brow lamination to ensure the safety and comfort of our clients.

What About Waxing After Brow Lamination?

Waxing after brow lamination is okay, however, it is important to exercise caution. At Elleebana, we prioritise the use of our Thio-free perming solution, Elleeplex Profusion, for brow lamination. This gentle formula is designed to be less harsh on brow hairs, minimising the risk of damage. However, it’s important to note that even mild chemical solutions can affect the skin due to the chemical reactions involved, which can alter the skin’s pH levels. To avoid irritation and discomfort, ensure that the chemical products are applied only to the eyebrow hairs and not beyond the brow line. Waxing already sensitive skin can lead to further irritation, so it’s crucial to handle the area with care to protect your client.

What’s the Alternative to Waxing?

If you would prefer not to perform a wax in the same appointment as a brow lamination, we recommend tweezing or trimming any unruly hairs post-lamination. These methods are gentler on sensitive skin and less likely to cause irritation or damage. To protect the skin and avoid accidentally placing the chemical products anywhere other than the brow itself, then you can apply a barrier product, like Ellee-Shield, to safeguard the skin you plan to wax post-service. Always remember to carry out a full consultation beforehand & if a client has used products containing harsh acids or the likes of retinol directly on the area, then avoid waxing entirely.

By following these guidelines, you can maintain the integrity of your client’s brows and ensure they look flawless without risking irritation or damage.

Elevate Your Beauty Game with Elleeplex Profusion

Elevate Your Beauty Game with Elleeplex Profusion

Elevate Your Beauty Game with Elleeplex Profusion: Elleebana’s Award-Winning Lash and Brow Lamination System

In the ever-evolving beauty industry, innovation is the key to standing out, and that’s precisely what Elleebana set out to achieve with the creation of our multi-award-winning lash and brow lamination system, Elleeplex Profusion. This innovative system, developed over a two-year period with extensive clinical trials, marked a new era in lash and brow lamination.

Why Elleeplex Profusion Stands Out

Otto, the visionary behind Elleebana, recognised a gap in the market for a lash and brow lamination system that offered both convenience and gentleness to lash and brow artists. Unlike many other systems that use thioglycolate as an active ingredient in perming agents, Elleeplex Profusion utilises a cysteamine HCL active. This formulation minimises the chance of overprocessing, keeping lashes healthy and maintaining their bond integrity.

But that’s not all! Elleeplex Profusion incorporates the Re-Gen–Next-Gen, the world’s most innovative third step, boosting hydration and strength in the lashes for optimal results and lash health. Amino acids and peptides are infused into the lashes during the lamination process, providing an extra boost of strength and nourishment.

The Benefits of Elleeplex Profusion

💫Gentle Processing: The cysteamine HCL active breaks down bonds slowly, making the system less hostile and more flexible with processing times. This minimises the chance of overprocessing lashes and ensures consistent, beautiful results.

🌸Natural Grow-Out Phase: One of the standout features of Elleeplex Profusion is its gentle grow-out phase. The lashes relax over time, creating a more natural look during the grow-out phase, eliminating the untamed look often associated with the grow-out of thioglycolate-based systems. Check out the evidence here.

🧡Versatility: The system is suitable for both lash and brow lamination, offering therapists the flexibility to provide two different services using the same product. With a recommended processing time of 4 to 10 minutes for each step in brow lamination, depending on hair type, efficiency is not compromised.

🎨Customisable Colour Palette: The Elleeplex Profusion colour system range includes eight shades that can be used for both lashes and brows, allowing therapists to customise the colour palette to suit a variety of hair types.

🌱Vegan Friendly and Gentle on the skin: Elleeplex Profusion is vegan friendly and has pH levels closer to that of the skin, making it suitable for even the most sensitive clients.

EDUCATOR ON THE SPOTLIGHT – MEET SUSAN HOUDE

EDUCATOR ON THE SPOTLIGHT – MEET SUSAN HOUDE

My journey with Elleebana has been nothing short of unexpected. With over 30 years of experience as an Esthetician, I was always on the lookout for new offerings in the industry when I stumbled upon a local Lash Lift training course. Right from the start, Elleebana stood out to me. What began as a mere addition to my skill set quickly became my new obsession. In 2017, I was fortunate enough to join Elleebana as an educator, and I haven’t looked back since.

In 2014, I launched my day spa business, Wild Honey, with a focus on skincare and makeup. Lash Lifting quickly grew into my most popular offering and became my favourite service and my focus. When I became an educator with Elleebana, I found my passion. The fact is, I love teaching. I feel so comfortable in this role. I love the connection with students, and the ability to help other professionals and share knowledge. I once received a review of my training saying “You could feel Susan’s excitement.” Which really says it all.

Elleebana is an amazing company. Their commitment and support for their staff, their innovative and thoughtful approach to the beauty industry, and their continued level of integrity within the brand is unmatched. I cannot express how proud I am to be a part of such a passionate group of professionals and I look forward to continuing to grow alongside Elleebana. Their ongoing support, positive culture, and genuine sense of community are what have kept me here, and I am grateful to be a member of the Ellee-family!

A few fun facts about me:
  • I am the lead singer in a professional cover band.
  • Originally, I pursued college intending to become a high-school English teacher.
  • I have been happily married for 28 years and am blessed with two wonderful sons.
  • As a native of Boston, I am a die-hard sports fanatic – it’s practically in my DNA!
