Australia needs you!

Australia needs you!

It is with great sadness that we have to write this. We begin 2020 with unprecedented tragedy in Australia. The blazes, which have been burning across Australia for months, have destroyed over 1995 homes and wiped out entire towns.

Across Australia, nearly 18 million acres of land have been burned — much of it being bushland, forests and national parks, home to the country’s beloved and unique wildlife.

The Statistics:

  • There are 134 blazes continuing to burn across NSW, with 53 uncontained.
  • Since July 2019, more than 20 people have lost their lives, including 3 firefighters.
  • Over one billion animals have perished, and this has thrown our Koala species on the brink of functional extinction in NSW as the fires ravage their territory.

Fires are nothing new in Australia, but as our country has experienced extreme drought for many months, the land was a fire hazard with leaf litter and tree debris having not seen rain for months.

How can you help?

The charities that we have collectively chosen as a company to support each are for differing reasons. Many of the larger charities are receiving such widespread support and aid from celebrities and international assistance we have selected these charities as they are perhaps more unknown but equally as in need.

http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/…/support-for-firefighter-families

Elleebana is a brand that is so strongly founded on family values and family ties that we couldn’t ignore the tragic loss of these dear firefighters. Each of these three men are younger than Otto and Zoe and they leave behind young families and wives. These brave men have been a part of the volunteer fire fighting services for many years and our hearts go out to the families left behind.

https://wildcare.org.au/help-us/donate/

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (just 10 minutes’ drive from our head office) has received in excess of 12,000 koalas into its emergency hospital from the New South Wales fires. These koala’s need medical attention, burn and smoke inhalation recovery, food, and care.

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is simply not able to house this amount of koalas after they have been cared for, so a local community of farm owners or property owners joined together to offer support assistance. This association is called Wildcare and will be fostering the koalas after their medical recuperation.

We personally want to thank some of our sub-distributors who have generously donated or pledged to these great causes:

  • Elleebana Mexico – Donated proceeds of sales
  • Elleebana Latin America – Donated proceeds of sales
  • USA Elleebana Sub-distributors – Brilliance Lash USA – 10% of weeks profits
  • USA Elleebana Sub-distributors – Lashish USA – 10% of weeks profits
  • USA Elleebana Sub-distributors – The Lash Lift Store – 15% of the proceeds from all sales for the week
  • Elleebana Spain – Donated AUD $5000
  • Elleebana Russia

Elleebana HQ has also donated $10,000 towards these two charities and our goal is to help wherever we can, and this includes reaching out to our sub-distributors to lend a helping hand.

For those of you that have asked which charities would be most in need – firstly, thank you so much for asking, for caring, and for praying for our country! In truth, all of the charities need assistance but we will be supporting the above charities, and they would love your support in doing so also if you are wanting to help financially.

Stage Presence at Brisbane’s Pro Make Up and Beauty Show

2014’s Pro Make Up and Beauty Show held in June sparked some serious interest for Sleek Brows.

Our stage presentation and live demonstrations at this show captivated the audience and “WOWed” the onlookers as we covered our client’s scar right before their eyes.

This particular client has a scar that runs from above her eyebrow and through the brow creating an area that has little or no hair growth.  Using Sleek Brows 3D Brow Building techniques of Sculptured paint and Eyebrow extensions we were able to cover the scar and finish the brow to the wants and needs of this client.

We are looking forward to the Sydney Spa and Beauty Expo in August where we will be showcasing the Sleek Brows products, Belmacil, Elleebana Lash Lifting and perming products, SPM by Elleebana, Lash Extensions, Collagen Sheets and Skin Care ampoules.  Be sure to pop past our stand #1519 to see these amazing treatments in action.

Professional Beauty Industry Insight – Otto Mitter talks about doing the biz.

Professional Beauty Industry Insight – Otto Mitter talks about doing the biz.

General Manager of Ex-Import Niche Products, Otto Mitter, provides an insight into his company’s preferred manner of doing business with salons.

What can salons do to encourage staff to attend training, both internal and external?
We all know how important education is in today’s world; in the beauty industry in particular, there are new products and treatments being developed or re-invented constantly and to keep your salon ahead of the pack you must have your finger on the pulse and be willing to be creative with your treatment menus and attentive to what is going on in the industry. Importantly, keep your staff well-informed of everything that is happening (if they aren’t already) and keep them motivated.  Motivating your staff to attend workshops is not always an easy task, usually what gets results is to offer your staff an incentive for putting in the extra effort.  Recognise and reward your staff for being motivated, keep your communication open with them and explain the benefits that they will receive from learning something new; you could provide opportunities for advancement or give them tasks with greater responsibility if you feel they are competent enough to do so after their training.  This will give them a better sense of personal development and obviously help them become more accomplished in their profession.

How do you recommend salons increase their retail sales?
Firstly, make sure your staffing secrets extend beyond hiring the best, to hiring the best for your organisation. This is certainly going to help you increase your retail sales with the right staff in place. Specifically:
• Seek talented people with related experience
• People with a passion and enthusiasm for results
• Have effective communication skills and great listening skills
• Take pride in making sure treatments include home care maintenance and remember that it’s the therapist’s responsibility to make sure this happens.
It is essential to offer products that are high in quality, offer good return and that can be adapted easily into your treatment menu. Do your research into just how much return you do get from a product.  Listening to your clients is also important to help increase sales; make sure you are offering them products they actually need, otherwise it could turn into a very sour pitch and actually detract from a sale.  Why not take half an hour to look at the treatments and services you offer in your salon and think about what your clients might need or appreciate between appointments.

Aside from product, what do you believe to be the greatest contribution a supplier can make to a salon?
Salon support is certainly a must do for any supplier and providing promotional material and items that the salon can use to help them explain products and benefits to their clients is always helpful.  Training is definitely important, helping therapists develop new techniques, tips and tricks that will help them perform the treatment to the highest level.  Our company performs workshops regularly throughout Australia and New Zealand and the response from therapists is very positive. Therapists that want to be at the top of their game are constantly looking for ways to increase their knowledge and boost their profits.  Another point is to ensure your supplier has your details to help create business for you. Communicate with your supplier and let them know how you are going in your salon and what you are offering; this will help them remember you if they get any inquiries from the public.

What are the essential components of salon professionalism?
Customer service: Always make an effort to be happy and make your clients feel very welcome when they come into your salon. Here are some aspects to look at:

Knowing your customers’ needs
Identifying your key service activities
Delivering superior service
Follow-up

In a competitive marketplace it is important to provide superior service. Customers base their purchasing decisions on the service they receive, not just price, quality and availability.

Here’s a customer service checklist to look at:
Do you tend to over-promise and under-deliver?
Are there opportunities to improve your service?
Do you know if your customers value your customer service initiatives?
Do you have systems in place to deal with unhappy customers?

A clean and tidy work environment: Presentation is one of the first things a client will pick up on. Keep your salon looking slick! Check that all areas and equipment are in good working order and maintained, after all you make your livelihood from the beauty industry and your environment needs to project beauty.

Staff presentation: Make sure your staff is well groomed at all times.

Qualifications: Making sure your salon obtains the highest standards of training and qualifications is essential. Displaying your certificates of achievement in the salon will show your clientele that you are fully qualified and professional.

Procedures: Ensure that all your staff is up to date with workplace procedures and that they are following your salon code of conduct.

What do you believe will be the greatest challenge facing the aesthetics industry over the next decade?
Obviously, the economy is a big factor and is the word on everybody’s lips at the moment. We all know that this is a time where people are being a little more cautious about their disposable income and the beauty industry falls right into an impacted category.

However, on the other side, it is certainly an opportunity for many businesses to hold strong and be ready to capitalise when the market corrects itself. So keep your creative ideas coming, and stay positive.

Beauty NZ Magazine March 2012 – Eye-catching colour MADE EASY

Beauty NZ Magazine March 2012 – Eye-catching colour MADE EASY

One of our all time favorite articles that our team here at Ex-Import Niche Products had published back in March of 2012.

The art of colour customising your clients lashes and brows can be thought of as a time consuming task to some beauty therapists and is more often a method associated with hairdressing techniques, but those days are gone! Therapists are looking for ways to set themselves apart from their competition and become the therapist of choice for their clients and clients friends. So with that being said – It’s time to unleash your inner Van Gogh, get colour creative and give your clients some extra TLC that will have them raving to their friends and have them coming back for more of your artistic colour styling mastery. Steps to becoming a Lash and Brow colour stylist are much simpler than what you might think, a few basic rules apply but after that, let your artistic ability run free. Firstly it is good to have a sound knowledge of the colour wheel – visualise back to grade 4 and put on your painters frock…. Identify which are warm colours (Reds, Oranges and Yellows) and which are your cool colours (blues, greens and purples). This colour wheel will allow you to understand the relationship between the colours and what colours are used to neutralise other colours. This information can be especially helpful when lightening eyebrows by using a bleach or lighting creme. Then you can apply this knowledge to lash and brow tinting. When dealing with lash and brow tints – some of the browns used on brows are of a warm based hue (honey and red browns) and others are a cooler tone (light browns or ash browns, these have more of a green base). After identifying your clients base hair colour and discussing with them the result that they are looking for you can then consult your colour mixing knowledge to achieve your clients desired look. No two clients are the same so why give them the same lash or brow tint colour? Gloria is a gorgeous blonde with deep green eyes who you normally use plain old Black on. Why not offer Gloria a Dark Green shimmer with her tint by mixing Green and Black to accentuate her fantastic eye colour. Glorious Gloria will be raving to all of her friends about how you picked out her fabulous features and enhanced her style.

Mixing ratios are an important factor in colour customisation – mix a little too much of one colour and the result might not be what you or your client had hoped for. Belmacil Lash and Brow tints have made mixing ratios easy with their Colour Ratio Chart and Colour wheel, a simple and easy to read explanation of just how many additional results are achievable. Once your clients hear that they can have “glossy dark violet” lashes and the “ultimate brown” on their brows with exceptional “grey coverage” – you might need to order some new beds because your appointment book will be filling up fast.

As always the application technique when performing a lash and brow tint is incredibly important. Rumours of salons that don’t remove eye make up before applying a lash tint or cleansing the skin and prepping the brow before a brow colour may have you reeling but its not the only application no-no that happens. Some therapists still tint a clients lashes with their eyes open claiming its “the best way to tint both top and bottom lashes”. The best way to tint a clients top and bottom lashes is “safely”. There are products out there such as the Belmacil Protective Eye Guard, a plastic comfortable guard that rests under the eyes so you are able to pick up each one of those stray lower lashes and it also reduces the tint absorption into the protective paper eye shields – or tissues I hear you say (another no no). More tint on the lashes or brows gives a better result and with correct processing times helps to ensure the colour lasts.

Possibly the most important application technique when colour styling a brow for the first time is the technique called “TAKE YOUR TIME”… Applying tint to the tail end (thin end) of the brow first to build colour and definition is a great way to start. Allow this to process for a short time 1 – 2 minutes (depending on your chosen colours being applied and the base hair colour that its being applied to). Remove and reassess your clients results – decide whether they need another short application of the tint to the tail end or are you ready to apply the tint to the whole anchor (brow section closest to the nose) and tail end – or the complete brow. This technique allows you to identify how quickly your clients hair reacts to the colour

processing time – as we know everyone is different and processing times should be noted accordingly. You can make notes on their client card of the colours you have mixed and the ratios used as well as the the procedure and times involved, that way when the client comes in next, you know what you are doing and the process will be quicker.

In some cases when performing brow tinting, therapists put the colour on for a minute or two then take it off and leave it at that, which is fine, but remember this point, the longer you leave the colour on – the longer the tint will last. Most cases a maximum of 5 – 10 minutes is recommended for the longest lasting results, unless you are using a very dark colour on the brow and your client has light brows, in this instance you may require less time.

Lightening eyebrows – the holy grail of colour styling. We have heard time and time again that people are soooo scared to bleach or in better terms “lighten” a brow. But in some cases its a great way to get the result you are after. For example you have a client that has now lightened their hair colour but their brows are too dark, as a “brow colour stylist” you can give an overall harmonious look by lightening the brows and then applying a lighter shade of brown to better match the clients new hair colour. This is a specialised service that will take you to the next level and your clients will be impressed.

Grey coverage – To understand how hair turns grey, you have to understand how hair is formed. Cells in the hair follicle, called keratinocytes, build the hairs out of protein. Then other cells called melanocytes add melanin, or pigment, to the hair to give it its colour. Hair turns grey due to a decrease in the amount of pigment in it.

As we age, melanocytes start making less pigment so there is less of it to use when forming your hair. As the melanin declines, the hair becomes grey. At this point colour will still take on the hair as their is some pigment to develop on, but when your cells have run out of pigment altogether your hair will go white. At this point, it becomes very hard to dye your hair since there’s nothing for the color to stick to. In these cases you need to pre colour the hair, then re colour it again. In some cases unfortunately you still may have no luck.

A popular colour to use for for grey coverage is Graphite, this has a charcoal effect and it can be mixed with light brown or red brown to add warmth and pigment to give the desired result. Depending on what colours your client has for their hair colour, you can either add the warm (red, honey brown hues) or cooler tones (ash – light brown, dark brown) to match their hair colour and give the ultimate colour styling solution.

Versatility in a brand of lash & brow tint is essential in your ability to have more options for colour styling. You also need to take into account the quality, long lasting result of the product and profitability is a very important factor to consider, sometimes you may pay a little more per tube for a product but if you get more applications per tube by doing this, then it’s a smarter choice by far isn’t it? You need to make your services as profitable as possible.

When your skills with colour styling are proficient you will be excited to unravel your Colour Customisation menu to your clients. It will open up more possibilities for you to cater for your clients needs and give you that edge over your competitors.

If you’re interested in doing a colour styling workshop and learning advanced tips and tricks you can contact Belmacil Lash & Brow Tints info@belmacil.com or Arrow Beauty NZ to find out more.

Belmacil Lash and Brow Tints and Elleebana products are proud to be exhibiting at The Pro Makeup & Beauty Show which is a must-attend event if you are a salon owner / professional makeup artist/beautician/academy teacher or student.  This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to experience firsthand, the latest and newest beauty/makeup trends.

If you are wanting to expand your knowledge, there will be award-winning educators both Australian and International, offering an array of speciality classes. There will both free look and learn presentations as well as investment education. If you are a lover of beauty/makeup you will need to feel the buzz of a trade show floor with many exhibitors offering their latest products for purchase.

Our demonstrations in Lash and Brow Colour Styling, Elleebana lash lifting and Semi-Permanent Mascara combining lash extensions will have our stand buzzing.  Stay tuned for our Pro Makeup & Beauty Show giveaways during the month of March!
